Alcino Soutinho

Architect · Vila Nova de Gaia, 1930 - 2013

Architect by Higher School of Fine Arts of Oporto since 1957, year in which he starts his activity as architect on an independent basis. Alcino Soutinho benefited of a scholarship granted by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in 1961, to continue his studies on Museology research, in Italy.
He is a Professor at Higher School of Fine Arts of Oporto from 1973 and later, at the Faculty of Architecture of Oporto University.

Awards
1982 - “Europa Nostra” Award for restauration works of de Vila Nova de Cerveira Castle.
1984 - International Association of Art Critics Award.
1988 - Medal of Merit from the Municipality of Matosinhos.
1991 - Selected for the European Mies Van der Rohe Award.
1992 - Medal of Merit from the Municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia.
1993 - Selected to represent Portugal in São Paulo International Biennial of Architecture.
1993 - Commend of the Military Order of Santiago da Espada.
2008 - Medal of Honour – Gold – from the Municipality of Matosinhos.
2010 - BID (Ibero-American Biennial) with the bollards Vesúvio from Larus.
